GMWFL Round Up

30/11/24- 1/12/24

GAME OF THE WEEK

Hyde United Women Vs Mancunian Unity B

1-0

Premier Division

A game of 2 halves at the Project Solar Stadium.

Hyde created a number of good chances and were constantly on the attack in the first half but could not beat Unity’s quick keeper. Ellie Richardson found the back of the net following a nicely worked corner to lead 1-0 going into the break.

Unity upped their game and were on top in the second half, the intensity was high and the passing was quick but they were unable to find a way through Hyde’s strong backline and the keeper pulled off some great saves.

Spectators have commented that this game was a great example of women’s football and shows how competitive the Premier Division is.

Hyde continue to be unbeaten and have now stretched their points to be 11 clear.

FTJFC U 18s Reds Vs Bolton Wanderers Girls U18s

4-4

Division A- Walsh

A thriller at Poolfoot Farm between two fantastic teams in the Greater Manchester Women’s League U18 top division.

Bolton Wanderers were without their keeper for this tough encounter but raced into a 2-0 lead before Fleetwood pulled it back to 2-1 with their strong forwards as Bolton struggled to deal with their strikers. Both teams had great chances to get ahead in the game, but it was Bolton who made it 3-1 before Fleetwood immediately hit back to go in at half-time 3-2 down.

The football had been brilliant from both teams so far with a lot of attacking intent and the next goal would be crucial. It went to Bolton, who made it 4-2 just before Fleetwood were reduced to 10 players for a sending off. Down a player and two goals down you’d be forgiven for thinking Fleetwood were buried but they managed to score two more goals towards the end of the game, capitalising on Bolton's defensive mistakes to make it 4-4 in what was an incredible advert for Girls football. Bolton could’ve won the game with late pressure hitting the bar.

Both teams put on a show for their spectators in the winter sun.
